I’m reading Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World by C.J. Mahaney. I’ve had a few friends recommend the book, so I thought it was worth the read. So far, it’s been a bit overwhelming! Every word I’ve read has been such a huge eye opener, and has honestly made me feel guilty, selfish, and horrible about the life I lead. There are so many wrongs I make on a daily basis, and I don’t even realize it.
Thoughts for the night:
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jeremiah 17:9
We’re more easily tempted than we know or are willing to admit. God makes it clear why we sin-it’s a matter of the heart. Our hearts have been inclined toward sin from the time we were born, and as a result, we’re prone to self-deception. It is easy to fall into the routine of forgetting and forsaking God, and we are more easily tempted than we know or are willing to admit. But we can still choose whether or not to continue in sin. We can yield to a specific temptation, or we can ask God to help us resist temptation when it comes.
